The declension of the moment. The reflections in the water make the immobility of the moment dance. Vibration full of emotions.

I painted a series of whales in July 2019 after returning from a trip to the Caribbean, during which I felt a deep connection to these marine giants.

I sailed the waters of the tropics in search of their profiles underwater or in the distance. The dolphins surrounded the boat by the dozens and accompanied me on this quest.

I did not physically encounter the whales, but on this trip I felt a deep connection with these incredible beings.

Back in Nice I felt a real necessity to paint this encounter. On canvas, with the fluidity of oil, I was able to reproduce the nuances of the blues and the depths, like an immersion in the ocean. On paper, the fluidity of watercolour allowed me to fix with a certain lightness these majestic presences in a few moments.

In both cases, it is a mystical, almost surreal encounter, and I wanted to represent the whales as suspended in the water, in time, so that they become the image of a profound meditation.
Wise, immense and majestic, whales are as beautiful as they are powerful and enigmatic, and they invite us to dive into our own mysterious depths.
